Haunted Hosts

Multiple spirits haunt this 17th-century former farmhouse, including a forceful male presence identified as 'David' and an unnamed female figure seen standing over sleeping staff. Investigators have documented EVPs, physical sensations, and persistent poltergeist activity across the Naseby Suite, Fairfax Room, and numerous bedrooms.

Down Hall Hotel hosts two distinct spirits - a graceful woman announced by the unmistakable scent of lavender who glides through the mansion's corridors, and a workman killed during the 1870s reconstruction who still appears in a bedroom, forever tying his shoelaces.

A monk or Catholic priest, reportedly executed in the bar during the Reformation, haunts The Brocket Arms in Ayot St Lawrence. The hook from which he was hanged remains visible. Witnesses describe a short figure in a brown robe who has appeared on fire, left burn marks on a guest, and once spoken to a visitor about the village.

Beyond the famous phantom monk, The Brocket Arms harbours at least four additional presences: a small boy who sits by the inglenook fireplace, a girl whose singing voice echoes from the toilets, an elderly woman observed in the bar, and a spectral dog.
