Aberdeen Barn Ghost

Constitution Street, Aberdeen, Aberdeen City SHC Victorian

Constitution Street in Aberdeen is home to a rather unusual ghost story. Back in 1888, a group of locals stumbled upon a barn where the remains of an elderly soldier lay. Much of his body had been reduced to ash, but remarkably, his face was still recognisable. What's even more bizarre is that the bales of straw surrounding him didn't catch fire, leaving many to wonder about the circumstances of his death.

The discovery of the soldier's remains on 19 February 1888 sparked a lot of interest in the area. It appears that the poor man had been there for some time, and his body had been partially consumed by flames. However, the lack of damage to the surrounding straw suggests that his death may not have been a straightforward accident. The case remains a mystery to this day, with many theories attempting to explain how he ended up in the barn and what led to his untimely demise.
