Mitchelstown Caves, Mitchelstown

Deep within the Mitchelstown Caves, a strange and unsettling sound can be heard - the ghostly shouts of a shepherd. Legend has it that this phantom voice belongs to a man who, in a moment of desperation, tried to kill a fairy ewe that had brought him great wealth. The ewe, sensing its own mortality, had led the shepherd's entire flock into the caves, where they were lost forever. Now, the shepherd's cries echo through the caverns, a haunting reminder of his foolish actions.

Grey Point Fort, Belfast

Grey Point Fort in Helen's Bay has a fascinating, if somewhat eerie, claim to fame. It was here that the Garvin family captured something inexplicable on their video camera back in August 2003. While out for a day, they managed to record a white shape that, when slowed down, appeared to be a figure resembling a Second World War soldier. This unexpected sighting has contributed to the fort's reputation as a site of paranormal activity.

Cavehill Park, Belfast

Cavehill Park in Belfast was the scene of a bizarre incident on August 31, 2008. Several people called the police to report a sandy coloured cat roaming the park. The descriptions all matched, leaving police puzzled as to the origin of the mysterious feline. A search of the area was conducted but no cat was found. The nearby Belfast Zoo was also contacted, but they reported no animals missing from their facilities.

Coastline, Glandore

Glandore's rugged coastline is home to a haunting legend. Cliodhna, the Banshee Queen, is said to have fallen in love with Keevan of the Curling Locks, a mortal, during a feast at Tir Tairngire. They escaped together in a ship, landing in Glandore. While Keevan went hunting inland, Cliodhna slept on the beach, but her rest was short-lived. Depending on the storyteller, she either drowned while sleeping or was tracked down by fairies and returned to Tir Tairngire. To this day, locals claim to hear Cliodhna's mournful cry, a deep and hollow roar, emerging from the caves along Glandore's cliffs when the weather is stormy.

Labbacallee, Glanworth

Deep in the Irish countryside lies Labbacallee, a wedge tomb shrouded in legend. This ancient monument is said to be the final resting place of a giant's husband, brutally killed by his wife Sheela after a heated argument. The story goes that Sheela hurled their bed at her husband, striking him with fatal force. His body still lies beneath the tomb, and locals claim that in times of national crisis, Sheela's anguished cries can be heard echoing through the landscape, calling out her husband's name.

Waterworks, Belfast

Belfast Waterworks has a rather unsettling reputation thanks to the ghost of John Herdman. He was shot back in 1862 and locals claim his spirit still haunts the area. It's said that his presence is felt by those who venture near the Waterworks, but details about the nature of his haunting are scarce. What we do know is that John Herdman's untimely death has left a lasting impression on the location.
