Cornish Piskey Haunting

General area, Tregoss Moor, Cornwall Fairy Victorian

Tregoss Moor, a vast and windswept expanse of heather and gorse, has long been home to a mischievous presence. Locals have dubbed these troublesome entities the 'Dinky Men', a name given to them by an older woman who lived in a cottage on the moor. She claimed they would lend a helping hand to her and her grandchild when needed, but other visitors to the moor weren't so lucky. They'd be pixie led into the bogs, lost and bewildered.

The concept of piskeys, or pixies, is deeply rooted in Cornish folklore. These mythical creatures are often depicted as small, mischievous beings with a penchant for playing tricks on humans. The 'Dinky Men' of Tregoss Moor are a prime example of this. While their antics may have been benign towards the local woman and her grandchild, others who ventured onto the moor weren't so fortunate. The 'Dinky Men' seemed to delight in leading them astray, into the treacherous bogs that dot the landscape.

Historical Context

The legend of the 'Dinky Men' dates back to the nineteenth century, a time when Cornish folklore was still deeply ingrained in local culture.
