Bridge over River Derwent, Cromford

Its method of attack was swift and deadly, but thankfully one brave soul managed to fend it off with a stick of St John's Wort. The Crooker was never heard of again, leaving behind a haunting legacy.

Normanton Barracks in Derby has a reputation for being one of the most haunted barracks in the UK. Soldiers stationed there have reported seeing strange people in the newer buildings who vanish into thin air if approached. In 2002, an Australian tourist decided to spend the night in the gaol, and it wasn't long before she began to experience some very unusual phenomena. But that was only the beginning - she also claimed that her pillow moved by itself, leaving her feeling shaken and confused.
