Mermaid of Port Henderson

Rocks along the coast, Port Henderson, Highland Cryptozoology Victorian

Along the rugged coast of Port Henderson in the Scottish Highlands lies a spot where legend has it a mermaid was caught by a cunning boat builder named Roderick Mackenzie. He managed to sneak up on her while she was sleeping and grabbed her by the hair. The mermaid, understandably, was not pleased and requested that Mackenzie let her go in exchange for granting him a wish. Mackenzie, being a clever man, wished that any boat he made would never sink. And so, a deal was struck. This encounter has been passed down through the years and is said to have influenced Mackenzie's successful boat-building career.

The story of Mackenzie and the mermaid dates back to the nineteenth century. It's a tale that has become an integral part of local folklore. While there's no concrete evidence to prove the encounter actually took place it's clear that Mackenzie's boats were renowned for their seaworthiness. The mermaid's supposed blessing is often cited as the reason behind his success. This story has been documented as an example of cryptozoology a field of study that explores the existence of hidden or unknown animals like mermaids.
