Phantom Three Masted Ship
Off the coast of Bouldnor in Islewight, a mystifying maritime sighting has been reported. In the summer of 1978, two individuals engaged in a spot of night fishing were startled by the appearance of an old ship with three masts sailing towards them. The vessel was noticeably illuminated by several lanterns positioned across its masts and bow, giving it an ethereal glow. As the ship drew nearer to the witnesses, it gradually faded away, leaving them bewildered.
The summer of 1978 was a typical season for the coastal waters of Islewight, with many fishermen and sailors enjoying the calm seas. However, the sighting of the three-masted ship was anything but ordinary. The witnesses, both experienced fishermen, were out for a quiet night of angling when they spotted the ghostly vessel. Their account of the ship's lanterns and its gradual disappearance has been well-documented, and remains one of the most intriguing maritime hauntings in British folklore.
The waters off Bouldnor have a rich maritime history, with many ships having sailed through the area over the centuries.
