The Newton Grove Apparition

Newton Grove, Grimsby, Lincolnshire Apparition Post-War

In the quiet neighbourhood of Newton Grove, Grimsby, a family lived in terror of a ghostly presence. The apparition, described as an ugly old man dressed in a monk's habit, was blamed for a series of bizarre occurrences that eventually drove them out of their council home. It started in the summer of 1966 and continued until August 1967, with the ghost turning gas taps on at night and switching lights on, only to have the fuses blow when they tried to investigate.

This haunting took place over a period of approximately 14 months, from the summer of 1966 to August 1967. The family, who had been experiencing these strange events, ultimately fled their home. The ghostly figure, known as the 'Old Man in Habit', seemed to be responsible for turning gas taps on and off, as well as switching lights on at night. Interestingly, even after the house was rewired, the fuses would still blow when the occupants tried to turn the bulbs on.
