Plumstead Poltergeist Haunting

Presbytery and church, SE18, London Poltergeist Early 20th Century

In the heart of Plumstead, a rather unusual poltergeist made its presence known back in 1918. This mischievous entity was said to create all sorts of a racket, from thuds and bangs to footfalls that sounded like someone was wandering around the living quarters at dead of night. It was as if the poltergeist was trying to make its presence felt, and it certainly did. The noise was loud enough to be heard by those inside, and it was often mistaken for someone trying to break into the church, both day and night.

The events took place during a time of great turmoil, World War I having just ended in 1918. The presbytery and church would have been a place of solace for many, but for those who lived and worked there, it was a hotbed of paranormal activity. The poltergeist's antics were reportedly quite varied, with sounds ranging from footsteps to what can only be described as attempts to gain entry. While we don't have detailed witness accounts, it's clear that the occurrences were significant enough to be remembered for years to come.
