Ireland's Mysterious Water Horse
Lake Attariff in rural Ireland has long been associated with a mysterious creature, affectionately known as the Water Horse. On a summer's day in either 1963 or 1966, local angler Mr W J. Wood was trout fishing at the lake when he spotted something extraordinary. About ninety metres away, he saw a dark brown creature, roughly three metres in length, with a head resembling that of a calf, bobbing above the waterline. The creature lingered for a couple of minutes before slipping beneath the surface, leaving Wood to ponder what he had just seen.
Interestingly, Wood's sighting was not an isolated incident, as it sparked further interest in the creature. In 2004, a Japanese film crew visited Lake Attariff, hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive Water Horse, but unfortunately, their search was unsuccessful. While some might dismiss Wood's account as a mere hallucination, his testimony remains one of the most well-documented and intriguing examples of cryptozoological activity in Ireland. The creature's appearance, with its unusual head and size, has led some to speculate about possible connections to other mythical water creatures from Irish folklore.
