The Levitating Woman of Meggernie

Meggernie Castle, Meggernie, Perth Kinross Apparition Victorian

Meggernie Castle has stood for centuries, its stone walls bearing witness to countless secrets and stories. One of the most enduring and bizarre is that of a woman with no legs. In 1862, a man woke up in the dead of night to feel a burning kiss on his cheek, only to see a woman standing over him, her form drifting away towards an adjoining room like a spectre. The shock must have been immense, but what made it even more unsettling was that as she vanished into the doorway, he caught a glimpse of her - or rather, what was left of her - and she had no legs.

Fast forward to the late 1920s, and a visiting doctor spent the night at Meggernie Castle, only to report a similarly unsettling experience. This time, it was a floating head and shoulders that he encountered. The woman's apparition has been seen in another, equally bizarre form - just a pair of legs with no torso. One theory is that she was brutally murdered, her body cut in two, leaving her spirit restless and fragmented. While we can't know for certain what happened, it's clear that Meggernie Castle has a unique and fascinating ghost story that continues to capture imaginations.
