The Grey Horse Public House in Whitburn has a rather understated claim to paranormal fame. It seems that a former cleaner is said to haunt the premises, although the manifestations are reportedly quite subtle. Instead of the usual array of ghostly apparitions or unexplained events, the phantom cleaner appears to make his presence known through creaks and knocks. It's almost as if he's still going about his old routine, just in a rather...unconventional way.

Interestingly, the Grey Horse Public House ceased trading and is now home to a Co-op shop. One wonders if the phantom cleaner has simply not got the memo, or if he's just not ready to let go. The haunting, which apparently occurred prior to 2021, seems to have been a relatively low-key affair, with no reports of malicious activity or frightening encounters. It's almost as if the former cleaner is just a benign presence, still looking out for the place he used to work.
