Margam White Hyena Sighting
Lakeside Golf Range in Margam was the unlikely setting for a bizarre animal sighting back in December 2005. It started with reports of a large cat roaming the area, prompting police officers to investigate. They were in for a surprise when they caught a glimpse of a strange creature, described as being a third bigger than an Alsatian and white in colour. One witness noted that the front legs seemed bigger than the hind legs and it had a long tail that reached the ground.
Further investigation revealed that the creature wasnt a big cat after all, but a German Shepherd/Husky cross. An animal warden was able to recover the animal, which was slightly different to the initial description. The incident highlights the challenges of identifying unusual animals, especially when they dont fit into known categories. The Margam White Hyena, as it came to be known, may have been a one-off sighting, but it remains an interesting footnote in the history of the golf range.
The golf range has been in operation since the 1990s
