The Resident Spirits

Long called 'one of England's most haunted inns.' Renowned for the ghost of Richard Evered, murdered here in 1648 by Roger Greene, who roams the upper corridors and Room 4. Both victim and murderer are said to haunt the hotel. A spectral Victorian maid is also seen on the staircase. The hotel experiences ongoing poltergeist activity investigated by Peter Underwood.

Known Ghosts:

Richard Evered (murdered landlord), Roger Greene (the murderer), The Phantom Maid, Poltergeist Activity

Richard Evered appears as a man in 17th-century garb, sometimes with bloodstains, particularly in Room 4. Guests report footsteps, pressure on beds, or seeing his glaring figure. Roger Greene's spirit has been photographed in period dress with a white collar (2016 paranormal dinner). The maid, in Victorian attire, is seen on the main staircase or in corridors, often vanishing when greeted. Poltergeist activity includes flying glasses, bottles, and plates, with temperature drops investigated by Peter Underwood.
