Museum, Peterborough

The Peterborough Museum is home to a multitude of ghostly entities, but one of the most fascinating is Sergeant Thomas Hunter. During World War I, this building served as a hospital, and it was here that Hunter met his untimely demise on 31 July 1916. Since then, numerous people have reported encountering his ghostly apparition drifting up the staircase or experiencing unexplained occurrences such as icy cold hands on their shoulders. It's little wonder that this historic building is said to be one of the most haunted places in Peterborough.

Peterhouse, Cambridge

Deep within the historic walls of Peterhouse in Cambridge, a sense of unease settles over the Combination Room, a spot where tragedy unfolded back in 1789. It's here that Francis Dawes, the former bursar, took his own life by hanging, a desperate act triggered by an election scandal that led to an unpopular fellow becoming Master of Peterhouse. Over two centuries later, in 1997, staff members began reporting strange occurrences that would leave even the most sceptical minds questioning what really happens when the lights go out. A butler and a waiter claimed to have spotted a white figure drifting between the spiral staircase and the centre of the Combination Room, a sighting that was both unsettling and intriguing.

Sweet Shop, East Street , Cambridge

In the heart of Cambridge, on East Street, stands a sweet shop with a dark history. Locals whisper about the sounds of screaming that seem to emanate from within its walls, allegedly the cries of a person being murdered with an axe. This unsettling phenomenon has been reported since the 1970s, leaving many to wonder about the shop's troubled past. The sweet shop is not the only location in the area with a reputation for paranormal activity; two other shops along the same road were also said to be haunted around the same time, although one had been demolished and the other was empty and run down.

Corpus Christi College, Cambridge

Corpus Christi College in Cambridge is home to a rather unsettling ghost story. It's said that Doctor Butts, a former member of the college, took his own life in 1632 by hanging himself in his room. Butts had been struggling with what we now recognise as depression. Since then, he's been seen wandering the college grounds, dressed in white, with long hair and a noticeable gash around his neck. The story goes that an exorcism was attempted to rid the college of his spirit, but unfortunately, it didn't work.

The Bull Hotel, Peterborough

The Bull Hotel in Peterborough is said to be haunted by a ghostly presence that's as elusive as it is intriguing. Footfalls and the sound of keys have been heard by staff and guests, but the source of these strange noises has never been seen. It's as if the hotel's former occupants have left behind a lingering echo of their daily lives. Adding to the mystery is the reported sighting of a ghostly dog, which is said to roam the hotel's corridors.

7, 9 & 11 Silver Street , Ely

In the heart of Ely, a series of cottages on Silver Street have been home to a restless spirit. This ghost, nicknamed Adrian by one of the residents, has been making its presence known for decades. The spirit has been heard crying upstairs and seen walking through the wall that connects two of the houses, numbers 9 and 11. It's a strange and intriguing phenomenon that has left many wondering about the story behind this phantom.
