Path towards Bootham Bar, York

Bootham Bar, a medieval gate in York's city walls, is home to a ghostly apparition known as the Grey Lady. This phantom nun, dressed in a brown habit with grey hair, has been spotted by numerous people over the years. In the 1970s, she was seen during daylight hours, but a more recent encounter in 2016 occurred at night. The witness reported locking eyes with the nun before she vanished into thin air.

The Guy Fawkes Inn, located in the heart of York, is home to a friendly ghost that has been delighting staff and patrons alike. According to reports, this gentle apparition enjoys a tipple of brandy at the end of the night, causing quite a stir among the Courvoisier bottles on the shelf. It's not uncommon for the team to find the bottle on the bar in the morning, courtesy of their ghostly friend.

Stonegate in York is home to a variety of shops and businesses, but one location has a particularly intriguing reputation. A teenage girl, out shopping, popped into the changing room at a store currently occupied by Jack Wills. As she looked in the mirror, she noticed another young girl standing beside her. Assuming the girl had accidentally walked into the changing room, the teenager turned to ask her to leave. The girl turned and walked through the wall, vanishing from sight. Staff later discovered that a doorway had once existed in the wall where the girl disappeared, which might explain her seemingly impossible action.

Mad Alice Lane, York

Mad Alice Lane in York is home to a restless spirit, that of Alice, a woman who met a tragic end. She was hanged in 1825 for a crime that seems harsh by today's standards - being 'mad'. Her spirit is said to drift along the lane that once bore her name, now known as Lund's Court. The story of her execution is a poignant reminder of the darker side of history.

Road outside York Minster, York

Outside the magnificent York Minster, a strange encounter took place on Easter 2008. Three children were witnesses to a bizarre incident involving a cyclist dressed in old fashioned clothing, riding an antiquated bicycle. The cyclist seemed to be on a collision course with two adults, but miraculously, the adults didn't see the cyclist at all. It's a puzzling event that has left many questions unanswered.

A crisis apparition, the ghost of an officer who appeared to his sister at the exact moment of his death on distant shores, has also been reported. And then there's the unexplained sound of a dog barking, adding to the eerie atmosphere of this historic building.
