The Floating Coffin of Acaster Malbis
Hauling Lane?, Acaster Malbis
In the rolling countryside of Yorkshire, a strange and unsettling sighting has been reported for centuries. Two men, driving their sheep home to York, were making their way down Hauling Lane in Acaster Malbis when they spotted something that would leave them shaken for days to come. Ahead of them, a coffin was floating in mid-air, seemingly carried by invisible shoulders, dipping and swaying as if borne by unseen hands. The men's eyes widened in horror as a bishop walked behind the coffin, his mouth moving in silent prayer. The apparitions vanished as suddenly as they appeared, leaving the men to stumble back to their beds, where they would remain for several days, recovering from their ordeal.
