Middleham Castle, Middleham

Middleham Castle stands tall in the picturesque town of Middleham, its stone walls bearing witness to centuries of history. But it's not just the castle's rich past that's drawing attention - a strange and intriguing haunting has been reported here. In the late twentieth century, three children claimed to have heard the sounds of battle coming from outside the castle walls, and even caught a glimpse of a knight on horseback charging towards them. But that's not all - inside the castle, people have reported hearing muffled music from the sixteenth century, a haunting melody that seems to emanate from nowhere and everywhere at the same time.

Raydale House, Leyburn

Raydale House in Leyburn has been home to a rather mischievous ghost for centuries. This male entity, affectionately known as Auld 'Opper, has a penchant for knocking on the furnishings within the property, causing quite a stir among the residents. It's said that at least one of the inhabitants was regularly upset by these unexplained noises, but thankfully, the ghostly knocks dont seem to cause any real harm.

Church, Coverham

Coverham Church stands serene amidst the rolling Yorkshire moors, its ancient stones bearing witness to a haunting apparition known as the Black Lady. Rising from the churchyard, this sombre figure clad in black sets off across the moors, her destination seemingly fixed on Curting Wall Corner. There, she vanishes as mysteriously as she appeared, leaving behind a trail of curiosity and speculation. The exact timing of these sightings remains a mystery, but the image of the Black Lady has become an enduring part of local folklore.

Off coast, Hilston

Off the coast of Hilston in Yorkshire, a most unusual sighting took place in 1945. Two sightseers were out enjoying the views when they spotted a fast-moving, long creature swimming in the sea. Travelling northwards, the creature had a small head and several humps, leaving the witnesses in no doubt that they had seen something truly remarkable. The creature's speed and unusual appearance have led to it being dubbed the Long Sea Monster, a fitting name for a creature that has captured the imagination of locals and visitors alike.

Off coast, Skinningrove

Skinningrove's rugged coastline has witnessed many a strange occurrence, but one of the most enduring tales is that of a mysterious 'sea man' caught by fishermen in the pre-nineteenth century. The story goes that the sea man was kept in a local cottage for several weeks, surviving on a diet of fish. As time passed, the villagers grew accustomed to their unusual guest, but eventually, he bid them farewell, waving goodbye to the people standing on the coast before diving back into the depths of the sea, never to be seen again.

Church Lane, West Witton

Church Lane in West Witton was the scene of a bizarre and unexplained encounter on the night of 18 September 2010. A witness, retrieving his son's teddy bear from the car, was startled by a metal clanking sound. As he turned to investigate, he saw a shadow that appeared to be three dimensional. The shadow threw something down the road that looked ring-shaped, and then there was another loud metal clanking noise behind the witness. He briefly looked over his shoulder, and when he turned back, the figure had vanished into thin air.
