Duncombe Park, Helmsley

Duncombe Park in Helmsley is home to a rather unusual poltergeist that's been making quite a racket. This mischievous entity, active during the twentieth century, was known for creating loud banging sounds that could easily be mistaken for large wooden boxes being dropped. It seems the poltergeist has since fallen quiet, but not before it made its presence known to the inhabitants of the park. The entity was reportedly lurking in the attic, where it was eventually calmed by a priest's blessing.

Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley

The Malt Shovel Public House in Oswaldkirk has a reputation for being one of Yorkshire's most haunted pubs. It's said that a mischievous spirit, believed to be that of a five year old boy named Thomas Bamber, has been causing trouble in the pub for years. Back in the late 1990s, a rector was called in to perform an exorcism after tables and chairs were found in disarray and small items were tossed through the air. But it seems that Thomas Bamber's antics continued unabated, with new landlady Pam Wilson reporting strange occurrences that she attributes to the young boy's ghost.

Scaw Wood, Handale

Deep in Scaw Wood, a legendary beast once roamed, striking fear into the hearts of locals. This was no ordinary creature, but a fire-breathing dragon that lived off the land, preying on unsuspecting maidens and the occasional monk. Its lair, hidden somewhere within the wood, was said to be a place of dark terror. The story goes that a brave knight, clad in heatproof armour, finally brought an end to the dragon's reign of terror by stabbing it through the neck. As a reward for his heroism, he married the surviving maiden found in the lair.
