The Shobnall Street Spectre

Derelict site along Shobnall Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire Apparition Late 20th Century

Shobnall Street in Burton upon Trent was once home to a derelict site that has since been transformed into a housing estate. But back in July 2004, it was a place of eerie occurrences. Two young boys, feeling adventurous, slipped into the abandoned site after the firm that previously occupied it had closed up and moved away. On their first visit, they were met with an unsettling atmosphere - they heard footsteps and couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched. Their second visit was even more intense. In another building on the site, they heard the sounds of machinery and hammering, but there was no one in sight.

Digging deeper into the mystery, it's clear that the boys' experiences were only just beginning. A few days later, they decided to enter the site again, and that's when they saw him - a large man who seemed to appear out of nowhere. He slipped through a gap in the fence and shouted at the boys, sending them fleeing in terror. But when they returned later, they found that the gap in the fence was far too narrow for a man to have fitted through. This baffling detail has left many questions unanswered. Was the man a ghostly apparition, or was there a logical explanation for his presence?

King Edward Place, Burton upon Trent

King Edward Place in Burton upon Trent is usually a peaceful spot, but on one evening in April 2012, it was the epicentre of a strange occurrence. Two experienced bell ringers, familiar with every bell in town, were astonished to hear an unfamiliar ringing sound coming from the direction of the Audi supermarket. The sound was distinct from the nearby town hall clock and the bells of Saint Modwens church, which occasionally echo through the area. What made this sound even more remarkable was that it seemed to match the note depth of a heavy bell from the long-demolished Holy Trinity church, which once stood on the site where the supermarket now stands.
