Gateshead Poltergeist Haunting
Bronte Street in Gateshead was the scene of a rather nasty poltergeist disruption back in the 1960s. It started in November 1963 and went on for a couple of months, causing a right old ruckus for the poor tenant who lived there. Apparently, bottles were smashed and crockery broken, making life very difficult for the occupant, who eventually fled the scene. The activity was centred around a council house, which must have been a bit of a challenge for the local authorities to deal with.
The trouble began on 3 November 1963 and carried on until January 1964. An exorcism was performed in December, which seemed to calm things down, but it wasn't a permanent fix. On New Year's Day, at the stroke of midnight, the poltergeist activity kicked off again, with Christmas decorations getting shattered and chairs moving across the floor. This sort of behaviour suggests that the entity was quite malevolent, but thankfully it didn't cause any serious harm to people. The fact that the activity stopped after the exorcism and then restarted suggests that the entity was pretty determined to make its presence known.
